The African Centre for Media and Information Literacy (AFRICMIL) and the African Centre for Leadership, Strategy and Development (Centre LSD) have agreed to work together to promote accountability and transparency in Nigeria.

The agreement was reached after the Centre LSD paid a courtesy call to AFRICMIL in Abuja on Friday.

The Programme Coordinator, Centre LSD, Uchenna Arisukwu, said the organization was working on a project that focuses on promoting accountability and transparency in Nigeria through the Open Government Partnership (OGP), which is supported by the MacArthur Foundation.

He pointed out that it was vital to partner with AFRICMIL as both organisations were engaged in projects bordering on good governance and accountability.

Responding, Coordinator of AFRICMIL, Chido Onumah, said the organisation’s focus was on media and information literacy, promoting political education among youths and transparency and accountability. He noted that in the last one year, AFRICMIL had been working on a project tagged Corruption Anonymous which is aimed at popularizing whistleblowing as a tool for reducing corruption in the country.

He added that the collaboration would further strengthen advocacy around accountability and the fight against corruption.

In addition to working together on the OGP front, the two organisations would also partner to interface with lawmakers to ensure sustainability and institutionalisation of policies that will benefit Nigerians.
